Chrome, Opera, and Edge browsers do not support NPAPI plugins.
As well, Firefox will no longer support NPAPI/Java after Dec. 2016.
And Oracle themselves will be removing the Java browser plugin in future Java updates:

In the long-term, only the fallback IE browser in older Windows (using old version Java) will support NPAPI for legacy business processes.
This is a security issue and protection for the average user. You may find some websites do not work with new technology and need to be updated. This is not your computer issue; this is an issue with the website maintenance. IE is not a more secure browser, it is most definitely a less secure browser!
